Summer 2026 | An update for 6,000 of my closest friends!
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Life is full—in the best, loudest, most exhausting way possible. The girls are growing, Sara and I are coaching two soccer teams, Barrel O’Monkeyz is gaining momentum, and I continue to find creative ways to add one more thing to the calendar.
The June Family Update
Sara landed a new position as a PE teacher with San Diego Unified School District—an exciting and well-earned next chapter. Because apparently teaching PE all day is not enough activity, she is also joining me to coach our girls’ AYSO teams this fall. Sara will be my primary assistant coach, voice of reason, and most likely the person keeping the entire operation from going off the rails.
Leland spent the year in Advanced Theater at Flying Hills School of the Arts and continues to impress us with her creativity, confidence, and willingness to step on stage.
McKinley turned 10 and celebrated with a slumber party featuring 10 of her closest friends. Yes, you read that correctly: 10 ten-year-olds under one roof. She is also benefiting from the IOP program at PRI Treatment in La Jolla. It has been a positive and supportive experience for her—and it has occasionally allowed Dad to enjoy a Guinness at his old stomping ground, Hennessey’s, while waiting nearby.

Noelline delivered a fantastic performance in The Aristocats at Flying Hills School of the Arts. She continues to embrace anything creative, energetic, and just mischievous enough to keep us on our toes.

Soccer: Because We Clearly Needed More to Do
Our spring season with AYSO Lakeside was a success. Leland and McKinley played coed 12U, Noel rocked 8U, and Dad learned a lot—although I may have lost a little more hair in the process. Noel is already chomping at the bit to play up in 10U.

This fall, we are back with AYSO Santee. Noel will play 8U, while Leland and McKinley will be together on the same 12U team coached by Mom and Dad. Sara and I have officially chosen chaos. Wish us luck.

What’s Happening at Barrel O’Monkeyz
Barrel O’Monkeyz continues to grow—not simply as a marketing agency, but as an outsourced marketing engine for companies ready to move from scattered activity to focused, measurable growth. More and more, I am stepping into Fractional CMO roles: sitting alongside leadership teams, asking the hard questions, building the roadmap, aligning the players, and helping turn strategy into action.
Behind that work is our proprietary TORQUE™ Growth Architecture.
- F.U.E.L.™ builds the foundation through discovery, positioning, messaging, and brand identity.
- D.R.I.V.E.™ creates the strategic plan and provides ongoing CMO-level leadership.
- I.G.N.I.T.E.™ turns the website into a stronger revenue engine.
- R.E.V.™ activates the funnels, content, campaigns, and lead generation needed to keep the business moving.
Together, the system connects strategy and execution as we build growth systems—not just one-off campaigns.
We recently welcomed PureShot Indoor Golf, Vive, and SunDoc Studios to the Barrel O’Monkeyz family. Our work spans brand positioning, go-to-market planning, sales growth, digital experience, websites, and executive marketing leadership. We are also working with Terry Town to help position its products for Costco. (Ask me about that one in person—the story is still being written!)

Our team is growing right along with the work. What excites me most is that BoM is becoming the model I have envisioned: CMO-level insight, a talented tactical team, and AI-enhanced delivery all working together to create alignment, accountability, and momentum for our clients.
Meet the Barrel O’Monkeyz Team
BoM’s growth is powered by a talented team working behind the scenes—and often directly alongside our clients—to bring the strategy to life. Here are a few of the people helping us keep the wheels turning:

Dina Daglas (BoM 11 Years+): Dina recently purchased a home with her husband in North County and has been enjoying making it their own. Outside of her work overseeing client relationships with Ludwig IP Law, KUSC Radio Group, Belvedere Exclusive, and many others, she loves spending time in the kitchen, exploring creative hobbies like ceramics and jewelry making, and making the most of life with family and friends. The rest of the year is filled with exciting celebrations, including weddings and welcoming many new friends’ babies into her circle.

Eden Gannon (BoM <1Year): After a career in hospitality, Eden is the new kid on the block at Barrel O’Monkeyz—and she’s already making her mark. She has jumped right into the action, helping support the creative and strategic work we’re doing for Sundoc Studios, Pure Shot Indoor Golf, and more. Outside of work, you’ll find her hanging out with her dog, catching live music, traveling, or cracking jokes. Originally from Chicago, she escaped the cold 19 years ago for San Diego sunshine—but she’s still rooting for the Chicago Bears. This is going to be their year…or is it next year?

Travis Perreira (BOM 11 Years+): As Lead Web Developer, Travis is the guy behind the scenes making websites work—hooking up CRMs, email marketing tools, you name it. Some of his recent work includes Ludwig IP law, Prime Cut Cafe, and Ferrari Productions. When he’s not under the hood of a website, Travis is either planning his trip to Amsterdam and Italy or geeking out over movies. He just returned from Comic-Con with his nephew, where they waited more than 15 hours in line to see actors present never-before-seen footage and receive exclusive swag from studios like Marvel. Was it worth the wait? Apparently.

Matt McGovern (BoM 11 Years+): After bouncing between Maine and Florida, Matt is finally getting a moment to exhale and spend some much‑deserved time at home with friends, his kids, and his wife—his lifelong soulmate who’s been putting up with him since 4th grade! Of course, he’s still kicking butt developing content for clients like Custom Robotics of La Jolla, Ludwig IP Law, Wicked Sports, and more, all while holding Paul’s hand through the next generation of BoM’s website. A well‑earned martini may be in order, or maybe he’ll unwind by pulling together a home‑cooked gourmet meal for his peeps.

Brandi Bronson (BOM 7 Years+): Brandi has been a monkey in the barrel for the past seven years, and was our account manager before that! As our social media manager, she enjoys turning social media into something that actually works for each unique business we’ve served, such as Wicked Sports, Mobile Edge, Holland’s Custom Cabinets, and others. When she isn’t finding ways to increase ROI through social media strategy, she is homeschooling her kids, writing, and going on long runs to reset her nervous system from homeschooling.
Building Community Along the Way
Our latest Gathering at Coral Del Mar was the largest yet, with CustomRobotics.io showing off its quadruped robot and helping make the night unforgettable. The next Gathering is October 1, and I am already excited to see what—or who—shows up. (Mark your calendars!)
I also continue to mentor through San Diego Sports Innovators. I am proud to contribute as both a mentor and a member, and I get to keep meeting smart, passionate people building the future of sports.
In Memory of David Cartwright

This quarter also brought heartbreaking news. My friend and colleague David Cartwright, founder and CEO of Mobile Edge, passed away. David and I shared a long history that stretched from our days at Targus through Mobile Edge, and I am deeply grateful for the years, lessons, laughter, and experiences we shared.
David was a visionary entrepreneur, a force of nature, and—most importantly—a friend. His family is the best, and my heart remains with them. He will be greatly missed, but the impact he made on the people and industry around him will continue.
I also want to clear up a question I have heard more than once: Mobile Edge is not closed. The company continues forward, serving its customers and carrying on the business David worked so hard to build. His legacy remains very much alive.
Community, Service, & Finding New Ways to Stay Busy
I am reconnecting with the Huntington’s Disease Society of America’s San Diego Chapter and exploring the opportunity to serve on the board again. The organization and its mission remain deeply important to me.
I also joined the AYSO Santee board and am supporting the region as a field marshal. I am now a certified referee, coach, and board member—proof that sometimes volunteering for one small thing can become a full-blown lifestyle.
Friends, Family Visits, & Summer Adventures
We loved catching up with Marc June during his visit from Alaska. We met at Carlsbad State Beach, where I spent the night right on the beach, and then headed back to El Cajon for a beautiful day of hiking.
My USD college friend KC Myers came to town, and we met up with Scott Carr. Within minutes, three senior-level executives reverted to college kids. The laughter was nonstop, and these guys continue to impress me. #Proud
Sara and I are preparing for our first kid-free vacation in more than 10 years—a getaway to Idyllwild. I am not sure we will know what to do with the silence.
I am also heading to Myrtle Beach shortly for a boys’ trip with friends from high school and college—the old Catalina booze-cruise crew. I am equal parts excited and scared.
Meanwhile, the girls are wrapping up Camp Cajon after a summer filled with swimming, beach days, soccer camp, arts, science, and more. School starts August 13. Amen.

A Few More Things Before I Go

I remain a loyal Dodgers fan while attending Padres games as a season-ticket holder. Yes, people give me plenty of grief. No, I am not changing teams.
I am working with Frank Cowell and the team at Revenue Ranch to build a more scalable model for Barrel O’Monkeyz. Frank is a rock star, and the work is helping us think bigger about what BoM can become.
I am also working on a book about entrepreneurship. The title? You will have to call me.
And because my plate was apparently not full enough, I am preparing to launch an investment fund called Blue Canopy Collective. More on that soon.
Until Next Time

That is the latest from our wonderfully busy corner of the world. Thank you for following along, supporting our family, cheering on Barrel O’Monkeyz, and staying connected.
If it has been too long since we talked, hit reply and say hello. I would genuinely love to hear what is happening in your world.
