Web Overhaul Beats Deadline, Triples Traffic & Doubles Sales
When TorreyPines.com website owner Cam Stephens approached Barrel O’ Monkeyz in late 2017, he was facing an uphill battle. His website was built on an outdated platform and the user experience was poorly designed. Traffic was down, conversions dropping, and accessing and managing the site was problematic. Additionally, San Diego’s premier golfing event, The Farmers Insurance Open, was just around the corner. Not only did TorreyPines.com need expert help, they needed it fast!
CHALLENGES
• Archaic website architecture, backend, and database with a poorly designed user experience resulting in dropping conversion rates.
• New website needed to improve the user experience, boost conversions, and integrate with an existing 20-year-old database platform.
• Aggressive implementation schedule with large scope of work that included numerous technical challenges.
ACTIONS WE TOOK
Barrel O’ Monkeyz assessed the situation, researched solutions, recommended strategies and tactics, and then engaged its creative and technical teams to develop, integrate, and execute as needed.
Working collaboratively with the client and facing a short deadline, BOM developed a clear understanding of the scope of work, what was needed, by when it was needed, and executed flawlessly.
RESULTS
Barrel O’ Monkeyz was able to deliver on the aggressive schedule with superior results:
• We beat the deadline to have the new website up and running in time for the Farmers Insurance Open.
• Digital advertising, inbound marketing, and social media efforts tripled website traffic.
• With website visitors responding well to the new user experience and modern design, sales doubled.
“Working with the BoM team has been mutually beneficial. Looking forward to future projects with the monkeyz.”
Successful Kickstarter Builds Brand Awareness, Targets a New Audience, and Helps to Launch a New Product Line
In the spring and summer of 2017, Mobile Edge—the leader in performance transport products since 2002—created a new type of backpack designed, prototyped, and tested by gamers for gamers. The first product to be offered in a planned new lineup of gaming products, the CORE Gaming Backpack was a full-featured bag designed to provide easy-access storage, power on-the-go, and transportation for all popular models of gaming laptops (up to 17” to 18”) plus accessories. To get the backpack to market quickly and to build awareness within the gaming and eSports communities, Mobile Edge engaged Barrel O’ Monkeyz to develop and launch a Kickstarter campaign that offered the public a chance to invest by pre-ordering the CORE bag at discounted rates.
CHALLENGES
- To create a successful Kickstarter campaign directed at the very exclusive eSports and gamer communities.
- To develop relationships with influencers and partners in the target audience.
- To develop content, supportive graphics, product demonstration videos, and video testimonials.
ACTIONS WE TOOK
Barrel O’ Monkeyz built from scratch an influencer partner and ambassador program directed at the gaming community, developing relationships important to both the Kickstarter campaign as well as Mobile Edge’s long-term interests.
BOM engaged its creative and technical teams to set-up all aspects of the Kickstarter campaign, to include creating content, graphics, and videos as well as multi-channel marketing and social media support leading up to and for the duration of the campaign and subsequent follow-through.
RESULTS
Operating under an aggressive schedule before, during, and after the campaign, Barrel O’Monkeyz was able to deliver a successful Kickstarter for Mobile Edge and to help the company establish a greater presence in the gaming industry.
- The Kickstarter campaign surpassed its $30,000 funding goal.
Marketing efforts around the Kickstarter boosted Mobile Edge’s brand awareness and created a ground swell for the CORE Gaming Backpack’s winter holiday product launch.
“The passion and dedication that Barrel O’ Monkeyz puts into their work is what made this campaign successful.”
Proof of Life Allows Client to Expand into US Markets and Online
With roots in Japan and more than 50 years of mechanical and design expertise building 200+ varieties of practical, functional, and innovative folding bikes for active mobile cyclists, OYAMA Bikes needed to develop an online presence in the Americas around which it could focus its digital advertising, social media, and brand-building efforts.
CHALLENGES
- Another agency had already failed to deliver the website OYAMA needed.
- Time was tight to get the website and related digital marketing strategies and tactics in place to support OYAMA’s sales and growth goals.
- Barrel O’ Monkeyz was given little direction and client feedback was scarce and delayed at the outset.
- Few web assets in the form of graphics, product images, and content were available.
ACTIONS WE TOOK
Barrel O’ Monkeyz assessed the situation, researched solutions, recommended strategies and tactics, and then engaged its creative and technical teams to develop, integrate, and execute as needed.
BOM provided the client with a clear work plan and timelines. Then, facing a short turnaround, we designed and deployed the website, marketing strategy, and generated supportive content and graphics.
RESULTS
Barrel O’ Monkeyz was able to deliver on the aggressive schedule with superior results, welcoming OYAMA Bikes to the digital age:
- The website was delivered on time and on-budget, providing proof of life for our grateful client.
- OYAMA now has an online hub around which it can advertise digitally, deliver content, and build brand awareness.
As a result of these efforts, working collaboratively with the client, we have now developed e-commerce capabilities.
“After being burned in the past, the initiative BoM took to get our website going really helped launched us into the market.”
Brick & Mortar Retailer Embraces the Digital Age, Grows In-Store Sales with an Eye Toward E-Commerce
Founded in 1985, Sunglass and Optical Warehouse grew from humble beginnings in a booth at the world famous Kobey’s Swap Meet in the San Diego Sports Arena parking lot to become San Diego’s largest retailer of sunglasses and prescription eyewear, with more than 60 brands and 7,000 frames to choose from. Sunglass and Optical Warehouse engaged Barrel O’ Monkeyz to help them build a greater digital presence to extend their brand to the larger online marketplace.
CHALLENGES
- Brick & mortar stores in the San Diego area with little digital presence or actions.
- Their website was dated and corrupted with malware.
- To date, S&O’s only experience with digital marketing had been with expensive and mostly ineffective digital ads.
ACTIONS WE TOOK
Barrel O’Monkeyz created and executed an integrated brand marketing plan that included both traditional and digital tactics, including social media and content generation.
BOM developed and executed comprehensive social media, digital advertising, and email campaigns/contests to drive people in-store for sales.
BOM engaged its creative and technical teams to overhaul and rebuild S&O’s website with a modern, and up-to-date user experience.
RESULTS
- Digital marketing and various social media and email campaigns/contests resulted in increased brand awareness and in-store sales.
- Boosts in web traffic and the enhanced user experience successfully set the stage for Sunglass and Optical Warehouse to move toward e-commerce.
“We’ve been working with Barrel O’ Monkeyz for a long time now, and their quality of work continues to stand out amongst the rest.”
